Suggestions For Your 60th Birthday Celebration

Turning 60 is an important birthday. You want to celebrate the accomplishments of the guest of honor and show him the impact he's made over 60 years. A variety of themes can be used with a 60th birthday party, depending on your budget, venue and the size of your guest list. When planning this milestone birthday, keep in mind that the main goal is to make the birthday boy feel appreciated. If you accomplish this, your party will be a success.

Era Theme

The theme of the 60th birthday party can be based on the era that the guest of honor was born in. If he was born in the 1950s, host a "Sock Hop" themed party, including a jukebox, poodle skirts and leather jackets. If he was born in the 1940s, a "Big Band" theme is a fun idea, complete with swing music and pin curls. The theme can be incorporated into every element: the music, the food, the dress and the decorations.

Pictures

One of the best ways to celebrate someone's life is to use pictures as homage to where he's been. A picture slideshow is not only an ideal way to reminisce, but it's also a great activity that all of the guests will enjoy. Pictures can be gathered from the guest of honor's life, starting with baby pictures and moving up through his childhood, teen years and young adult life to the present. Wedding pictures, pictures of children and pictures of grandchildren can be added. The slideshow can be set to music associated with his life and shown throughout the party using a projector and screen, or it can be made as a presentation while everyone watches. Pictures can also be set up on a table at the door, hung on the wall or used as centerpieces at the tables so guests can look at them whenever they please.

Favorite Foods

Incorporate the birthday boy's favorite foods throughout the event, even if the foods don't necessarily match. If he loves pizza and tacos, serve both. Create a candy buffet of all of his favorite candies and other desserts, and even make a special drink named after him, such as the "Mark-tini."

This Is Your Life

Recreating the popular television game show of the 1950s called "This Is Your Life" is a fun activity for a 60th birthday party. For this game, old friends the birthday boy hasn't seen for many years are invited to show up at the event. The birthday boy is brought to the front of the room, and then someone begins reading a biography of his life. The story of the old friends is included in the biography, and the friend is then revealed for the first time. This is a great surprise for the birthday boy, and yet another way of honoring the great life he's led.
