Cultural
Those wanting to explore the cultural side of things might want to try the Dallas Museum of Art (dallasmuseumofart.org), located downtown in the Arts district. Established in 1903, the Dallas Museum of Art features more than 24,000 works of art from all around the world, going all the way back to ancient times.
Educational and Historical
There are also a variety of museums that can be of interest both to children and adults. The Dallas Museum of Nature & Science (natureandscience.org) is another option. A combination of three previously independent museums, this is the perfect place for people to broaden their cultural knowledge. Its 323-seat IMAX theater provides educational films on a 79-foot dome screen. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza (jfk.org) offers a little presidential education. Housed in the Texas School Book Depository, the sixth-floor location from which President John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald now houses a museum on the life and times of the nation's 35th president. Photographs and video footage of related to the assassination are also featured at the museum.
Nightlife
In addition to family friendly and educational attractions, Dallas also has a thriving nightlife. Visitors can idle away the hours at Adair's Saloon (adairssaloon.com), an old-fashioned honky-tonk bar featuring live music, burgers and a jukebox featuring classic music by Hank Williams Sr. and Bob Wills. Adair's does not have a cover charge. The Balcony Club (thebalconyclub.net) is another nighttime hot spot located in the historic Lakewood Theater and featuring live jazz music and appetizers. There is no cover charge, and the club is open nightly from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. The Library Bar (landmarkrestodallas.com) is an elegant establishment located in Dallas's Melrose Hotel, part of the hotel's Landmark Restaurant. Guests can lounge on a sofa and listen to music provided by the house pianist. Happy Hour is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Shopping
Galleria Dallas (galleriadallas.com) is a vast shopping complex located at 13350 Dallas Parkway. Featuring large department stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Gucci, Nordstrom and Macy's, anyone who shops at Galleria Dallas will quickly know why "USA Today" named it "one of the top 10 places to spend it all." Galleria Dallas also features restaurants such as The Grill on the Alley, Grand Lux Cafe and the Oceanaire.
