Use Thumb Drives Inside A Pc

Use thumb drives to save, store and transfer media and data. Thumb drives, also known as USB drives or flash drives, are great for transferring information because most computers are equipped with USB ports. Saving data to thumb drives is often faster and more convenient than burning CDs or DVDs. Thumb drives come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and can connect to your PC easily.

Instructions

1. Insert your thumb drive into a USB port on your PC. The USB port is small and rectangular, the same shape as the end connector of the thumb drive.

2. Wait as windows recognizes the thumb drive. AutoPlay will launch as a Removable Device dialogue window. This dialogue window will display various actions you can take with your thumb drive.

3. Select an action for your thumb drive. The actions displayed will depend upon the type of data you have on your device. Windows will list actions like "Play Using Windows Media Player," "Copy Pictures to a Folder on My Computer," "View Slideshow of Images," "Take No Action" and "Open Folder to View Files."

4. Select "Play Using Windows Media Player" to play the thumb drive's contents in WMP. Windows Media Player will launch and begin to play supported files.

5. Select "Copy Images to a Folder on My Computer." Windows will run a brief wizard and copy the images to a folder on your computer.

6. Click "View Slideshow of Images" to launch Windows default picture viewer. The picture viewer will display the images on the thumb drive.

7. Click "Take No Action" and Windows will not perform any function.

8. Select "Open Folder to View Files." Windows will launch a new window that displays all the thumb drive's contents. From this new window, you can double-click on a file to open it or drag and drop files to your desktop to transfer them.

9. Save data to your thumb drive. When Windows presents you with a "Save" dialogue box, click the drop-down arrow in the "Save in" field. Choose your thumb drive from the list of devices. If you wish, rename the file in the "File Name" field. Then, click the "Save" button. Windows will save the file to your thumb drive.

10. Click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on your task bar next to your clock. A new window will open. Select your USB device from the list, and then click the "Stop" button.

11. Remove the thumb drive from your computer when Windows alerts you it is safe to do so.
