Adjust A Cutter On Cricut Cake

Adjust the speed and pressure dials on the Cricut Cake machine to help the cutter cut heavier or more fragile material.

The cutter on the Cricut Cake machine will take you through 500 to 1,500 single cuts through its lifetime to help you create precise cuttings on the decorative elements of your cake. When cutting shapes and characters on your Cricut Cake machine to achieve special effects, like delicate stenciling, or obtain more robust cuts through thick material that will be applied to your cake, make small adjustments on the cutter position, orientation, and depth and speed of cutting using advanced buttons, functions and modes.

Instructions

1. Use the size dial on the right-hand side of the Cricut Cake to adjust the cutter to get a specific size cut when cutting characters. Choose any size from the given settings of 1.5 inches to 23.5 inches. This will be the height of the character, which will be displayed on the screen next to the keypad overlay. From the Settings menu, select among four different units of measurement: 1/4ths or 1/10ths of inches, centimeters or millimeters.

2. Change the default direction of the cutter from Landscape to Portrait by pressing "Portrait" mode. This button is located among five other advanced Mode buttons to the right of the display screen. Landscape cuts characters from top to bottom whereas Portrait will cut from left to right. To cut in Portrait mode, press the Portrait button so that the display reads "Portrait mode" and the button is backlit in green. Press the Portrait button again to return to Landscape mode. You can also change the direction of the blade using any of the eight directional navigation buttons surrounding the CUT button.

3. Select the number of cuts. "Quantity" is another mode on the Cricut Cake machine you can use to adjust your cutter. Press the Quantity button until it is backlit in green and the display offers instructions. Use the plus and minus arrows to select the number of desired cuts. Make your character cutting selection on the keypad and press CUT. The machine will keep track of the number of cuts being processed, which you can reset by pressing the OK button.

4. Use a Function. Located below the Modes buttons, function buttons allow you to do cool things with your cutter like centering around a point, flipping characters and line returning. Make use of the Multi Cut function if you need the cutter to go over the same lines of a character multiple times for heavyweight and hard to cut materials. First go to Settings and look for Multi Cut among the setting options. Use the plus or minus buttons to select the number of times you want the cutter to recut the same pattern, press OK, then exit Settings. Now press the Multi Cut button until backlit in green. Choose your character selections and then press CUT.

5. Adjust for cutting speed and cutting pressure by using the Speed Dial and Pressure Dials. On the left-hand side of the machine, locate the speed and cutting dials. Depending on how heavy or lightweight your material is, vary the knob up or down and test with a piece of scrap material before applying the change. Decrease speed if the pieces get torn or change the blade or change the pressure. The number of bars (from one to five, the maximum) on the display will indicate how fast or how much pressure is being used. Increase the pressure if the material is not being cut through.
