Replace Home windows Media Player

Obtain the latest version of Windows Media Player.

Windows Media Player is the default audio/video player on PC systems and comes pre-installed on all Windows computers. However, if you are running an older version of the media player and want to replace the software currently installed on the computer, it is possible to upgrade to the latest version of Windows Media Player, free of charge, and all you need is an Internet connection.

Instructions

1. Open your Internet browser and navigate to the Windows Media Download Center (see Resources).

2. Click "Download Now" next to the Windows Media Player 11 (or latest version offered) listing. When installing the newest version of the media player it automatically replaces the current version installed.

3. Double-click the downloaded file once it has completely downloading.

4. Select "Next" on the Welcome to Windows Media Player page, then scroll through and accept the end-user agreement. You are not allowed to install this update without accepting the agreement.

5. Leave the installation name and location as is. Changing these settings not only leaves the previous version of the program intact, but may result in the computer being unable to detect the program once installed.

6. Click "Install" and the newest version of Windows Media Player installs, replacing the old version on the computer.
